Research Champions Thames Valley and South Midlands

Research Champions are members of the public who volunteer their time to spread the word about health and care research to the public and help healthcare staff understand more about the experiences of those who take part in research. This website is about the Research Champions programme in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes and Oxfordshire, administered by the NIHR Clinical Research Network Thames Valley and South Midlands.

For Research Champions

As the managing centre for the local Research Champions programme, the NIHR Clinical Research Network Thames Valley and South Midlands provides a range of support to Research Champions. For full details see the members pack.

Support includes:

  • Opportunities to promote health and care research, such as public events.

  • The chance to work with local research teams to ensure they understand research from a patient point of view.

  • Materials to promote research, such as posters and leaflets.

  • Away days and a round table forum to discuss ideas.

  • A local Research Champion newsletter and Facebook group.

  • Free training on patient and public involvement and engagement in research.
